Being the spiritual leader of a 15,000-member congregation has its perks. The Rev. Lance Watson, resident pastor at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, undoubtedly is familiar with them. Powerful people such as mayors, senators and, depending on the year, candidates for president, must convince him long before they get access to his flock. Via a recently reached deal, his sermons are beamed out weekly to a national audience. And according to the Virginia Baptist Association, his church, with its four campuses, is still growing.
