43. State Sen. Walter A. Stosch 

12th District Virginia Senate Representative

Given his seniority, he'll be safe should he run again, but Republican Sen. Walter Stosch has taken some knocks. As an accountant his budget expertise is still valued. But after a tough primary in 2008, his party lost the chamber, his role in the leadership was dialed back and the caucus veered right. He supported the health freedom bill, aimed at thwarting the Congressional health care overhaul, a position the moderate senator may not have taken when the GOP still controlled the Senate.
