400 is the new 300

With the arrival of the ship the Godspeed at Richmond's Intermediate Terminal and the celebration of the city's 400th anniversary, it's a time to reflect on the roots of our nation. If touring a replica of the 17th-century vessel doesn't put you in the mood, there's an aptly named hip-hop band performing that should drive home the message. The Roots hit the stage Friday, May 25, at 7 p.m. for the Rock the Boat festival. But tours of the ship begin Thursday, May 24, at noon (when it cruises in from Henricus) and continue through Saturday, May 26. On Saturday, the Richmond Symphony performs at 8 p.m., followed by a fireworks show on the James River to remind us that, hey, we still have great legs. Free.
