The country's economic downturn has forced nonprofits to tend to their own financial troubles. That's where large, enmeshed organizations such as the Community Foundation are well situated. Darcy Oman, one of the few women on the Power List, is at the helm of this wide-reaching, endowed organization that still managed to give $48 million in grants in 2009. Also last year, other local nonprofits could turn to the $1 million Safety Net Fund the foundation established.
