The chairman and chief executive of the Carpenter Co. and his wife are major players among Richmond’s corporate and philanthropic elite. She’s a dependable advocate for the arts, and he’s an active supporter of higher education. In 2009 their family foundation gave more than $3 million to charities, including the Medical College of Virginia Foundation, the Richmond Symphony and Circle Center for Adult Day Services. CenterStage alone received $1.025 million of the family’s largesse.
