Proceeds from the RVA Earth Day Festival will benefit FeedRVA, the non-profit counterpart to GrowRVA, whichs will provide matching funds for SNAP recipients at farmers' markets in the Richmond/Tri-cities area and help educate everyone on healthy, sustainable food choices. For every food stamp or voucher redeemed at a farmers' market, FeedRVA matches the dollar value. So $10 becomes $20, and that $20 spent at a farmers' market then supports local farmers. It's a full circle, improving nutrition and benefiting area farmers.
FeedRVA supports and fosters food justice so that communities can exercise their right to grow, sell, buy and eat healthy foods. Additionally FeedRVA will promote on-site and traveling food education programs to highlight simple recipes and healthy meal preparation and will work to partner with other agencies to encourage and support a positive change in the eating habits of the citizens in the Richmond region.
