20. Marcus M. and Carole M., Allison P. Weinstein and Family

Richmond Philanthropy

Carole Weinstein saw the fruits of her leadership — and a $10.5 million gift — materialize into 57,000 square feet of gothic glory with the opening of the University of Richmond’s Carole Weinstein International Center in October. President Ed Ayers (No. 9) called her “the guiding conscience behind the growth of our international programs.” Her daughter, Allison, serves on the university’s board of trustees. The Weinsteins’ philanthropy touches a wide swath of the city. And other square footage of note: 12,000-plus apartments owned and managed by Weinstein Properties.
