The Score

A weekly rating of the city zeitgeist.

0 Election Day crushes the Democrats in the top three statewide races, giving Republican Bob McDonnell the governorship in a landslide. McDonnell's so overjoyed his hair color becomes permanent.

+1 Meanwhile, Gov. Tim Kaine, back from hiking instead of campaigning for Creigh Deeds on Election Day, announces he'll teach part-time at the University of Richmond's law and leadership schools. Lesson No. 1: “Speak Softly and Carry a Walking Stick.”

+5 “The Box,” a feature film by Richard Kelly — who grew up in Midlothian — opens in theaters, featuring such familiar-looking settings as a 1970s Ukrop's. You know, back when you didn't have to mortgage your house to visit the salad bar.

+3 Just in time for holiday planning, we learn the Harlem Globetrotters will serve as grand marshals of the Ukrop's-Supervalu Richmond Christmas Parade Dec. 5. We can't spoil the surprise, but let's just say the grand finale involves pie, confetti and a very embarrassed Santa.

-1 The T-D reports that John B. McGinty, the former Benedictine High School headmaster, is suing the school, charging that his employment agreement was broken when he was forced out. We're not sure what the rules are when it comes to suing monks, but if we were McGinty we'd stay away from golf courses during lightning storms.
