4 Nearly 150 people volunteer to jump into the ice-cold water of an above-ground pool for RVA Polar Plunge, raising more than $25,000 for Special Olympics Virginia. Unfortunately, most of that money is in frozen assets.

1 The General Assembly adjourns its session, with Gov. Terry McAuliffe saying more should have been done on ethics reform, gun control and expanding Medicaid — though he’s glad to have a budget. His sunny disposition would sicken Frank Underwood, but Virginia will take it.

2 For the first time in 14 years, the University of Richmond men’s basketball team beats Virginia Commonwealth University twice in a season, culminating with a heart-pounding double-overtime game that shows off the talents of both teams. It was so nerve-racking that WebstUR the Spider was walking on only two legs.

1 In the T-D, details emerge on the grocery chain Aldi’s plans for at least seven stores in the Richmond area, including opening what will become the first grocery store on the Boulevard. A new lover? Perhaps. But we’ll never forget our true first, the man with the rainbow cookies.

1 The Virginia Governor’s Cup wine competition comes to town, with Shenandoah’s Muse Vineyards winning for its Bordeaux-inspired 2009 Clio. It sells for around $65, so if you’re working with a budget like ours, might we recommend a lovely box-inspired 2015 CVS?
