The Score

A weekly rating of the city zeitgeist.

+5 Richmonders go gaga over the World Cup. There are watching parties, mass gatherings in sports bars and much exercising of self-restraint trying not to punch out the self-appointed, blathering soccer “expert” who's mostly full of KakA¬≠.

+7 Father's Day is celebrated in Richmond. And once again dads soldier through it all in hopes that finally they will land on a sofa surrounded by silence.

+2 The Richmond Symphony gets a $100,000 pledge for its annual fund from the family foundation of local cushion-making magnate Stan Pauley. Hence the new series, “Memory Foam and Brahms: the Sonorous Sounds of Slumber.”

0 Leadership Metro Richmond announces the selection of its new president and chief executive, Myra Goodman Smith. As expected, hiring a leader for a leader-training group really came down to one thing: PowerPoint.

-6 In an undisclosed corner of the city this weekend, an unsuspecting, popped-collar, SUV-driving bro got iced, bro. And that bro's mouth now tastes like he's made out with a family of rats that dove into a BP oil slick and emerged from a toilet in Joran van der Sloot's Peruvian jail cell.
