Barbara Grey at Cary Elementary precinct

Posted by on Wed, Nov 5, 2008 at 4:00 AM

Voters carrying umbrellas created a tunnel running out the door of John B. Cary Elementary School stretching all the way to the corner at 7:30 a.m. The line was longest when the polling place opened at 6 a.m. and receded as the day went on.

Barbara Grey, the diminutive mother of mayoral hopeful Robert Grey, handed out fliers asking people to consider voting for her son, reminding folks that he is a lawyer, not a politician. Mrs. Grey, now retired, served as principal of the school, where pupils have been given the day off to stay out of the way of the stampede of voters. -- Amy Biegelsen
