Little Red Riding Hood

by Mike Hilleary

With the exception of She and Him’s lovely Zooey Deschanel, there’s probably no greater crush out there for indie music-loving males than Ms. Jenny Lewis. Most notably recognized for her twang-inflected pop vocals fronting Rilo Kiley, Lewis is once more on the road without her mainstay ensemble, touring behind her second solo album, “Acid Tongue.” Featuring cameos by Elvis Costello, M. Ward and the Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson, the female songwriter’s latest batch of material does away with over-thinking, evident by the intimacy of its live-in-the-studio recording sessions. Sure to raise questions again regarding where things go from here — with or without her band — the red-headed beauty plays the National with Heartless Bastards (who are interviewed on page 23) on Friday, July 3, at 8 p.m. $18-$21.
