Michael Gage, a Glen Allen business owner, has received the Virginia Republican Party’s nod to challenge Delegate Joe Morrissey for his 74th District House of Delegates seat in November.
Until now Gage’s political achievements have been confined to participation in the Tuckahoe Jaycees, where he’s served as president. The 33-year-old owns a “catering-style baking operation” in Henrico County called MAGpieCreations.
Gage will have his hands full challenging Morrissey, who has undergone a political rebirth in the General Assembly. The once-disgraced former Richmond commonwealth’s attorney has quickly assumed high-profile roles on the House floor as a champion for the rights of disabled Virginians and for education. (Earlier this year he filed a lawsuit against Style Weekly alleging libel.)
Like Morrissey, Gage is not without flaws, though publicly his are so far confined to the grammatical: “In the House of Delegates I will fight to restore our rights of the Constitution, and making state government more accountable and efficient,” he’s quoted as saying in a news release announcing his intention to run.
